The forklift is a mobile machinery that uses 2 prongs or forks to carry and place loads into positions which will be normally difficult to reach. Usually, forklifts fall into 2 major categories: industrial and rough-terrain.
Most often, industrial forklifts are used around truck loading docks and train loading docks as well as in warehouse operations. These machines have smaller tires which are engineered to run on smooth surfaces. Normally, industrial forklifts are powered by an internal gasoline engine running on propane or diesel fuel.
There are several smaller industrial forklift units that utilize an electric motor running off an internal battery. As the name implies, rough terrain forklifts are engineered to run on rough and unpaved surfaces. Normally, they are the great option for military and construction applications. Rough terrain forklifts usually have large pneumatic tires which are usually powered by internal industrial engines which run on diesel or propane fuel. These forklift models can have a telescoping boom, capable of lifting loads up and out from the machine's base or they could utilize a vertical tower, which is responsible for carrying cargo straight up.
The rough terrain forklift emerged during the year 1946, after a 2 pronged lift attachment was attached to a tractor chassis or a power buggy. This initial equipment was utilized around construction locations and could lift to a height of 76 centimeters or 30 inches and had a lifting capacity can lift four hundred fifty four kg or one thousand pounds. Vertical tower forklifts were quickly developed for industrial use and rough terrain forklifts became famous too. By the time the nineteen fifties came around, there were models available that can raise up to heights of 30 feet or 9 meters and had lift capacities of one thousand one hundred thirty five kg or 2500 pounds.
